Trail running is amazing. Sadly, I don't have the option to do it as often as I'd like. I can definitely tell a difference how I feel about a run when I do it off road versus on. I think you'll fall in love with trail running, too.

I only started running again as an adult so I could do triathlons. Biking and swimming felt effortless and running felt...painful. I think it had something to do with how my body felt while doing each activity. In the water or on the bike, I felt "weightless." Running made me feel graceless. I think you'll love Born to Run. I'll warn you that you may feel the urge to correct how other people are running after you read it. On my run this morning, I saw a girl using a heel to toe motion, and I had to stop myself from running over to tell her that she was risking injury.

Hi there, I know exactly how you feel!! To remedy the situation I've signed up to do trail running, I've been told that it will rejuvenate my love for running - maybe that's what you need, a revamp?

I will admit up front that I'm not a runner - probably never will be, regardless of what I read. Some of my dearest friends know me for my slogan: "Why run if you can walk? Why walk if you can drive?". Nothing against the environment or healthy living, I just really enjoy driving, especially when I'm driving a fine automotive instrument. And while I don't mind walking, I think running is best reserved for situations like bear chases, fires, and the like. :)

Your post really resonates with me, though, on a different level. A great friend from college was most definitely a runner and he enjoyed the experience of running, whether it was competitive (track meet, cross country) or at his leisure and for his own pleasure. Like my enjoyment of driving, sometimes he did it just because he could, and not necessarily with any other goal or endpoint in mind.

I didn't start "running" until a few years ago (only to start trying to do triathlons) and I found that running was fun while biking and swimming were chores. But I so resonate with your experience of how running is sometimes a chore, too, when the focus is "just" to stay in shape.

_Born to Run_ sounds fascinating -- I'll have to see if my library has it!
